7 Reasons to Attend Southern Smoke on Sunday

Southern Smoke is back this Sunday. Look who's cooking for you if you snag a ticket.

Chris Shepherd's celeb-filled Southern Smoke event is bigger than ever this year. Typically an instant sellout, the footprint (outside Underbelly and Hay Merchant) is larger, so there's a few tickets left for a party that's typically impossible to get into. When Chris announced charitable efforts would benefit those in his industry affected by Harvey, even more of his famous chef friends stepped up to help. Get your hands on a ticket today, so you can be lickin' your fingers on Sunday.

Here, 7 reasons to attend the legendary event:

1. Eight mega-watt visiting chefs are descending upon Houston for the party including five-time James Beard Award-winner David Chang and Matthew Rudofker of Momofuku (NYC), Aaron Franklin (of Austin fame), John Besh (New Orleans) and Rodney Scott (Charleston). 

2. Make your way through the tasting tents to see beloved local chefs like Brandi Key and Hugo Ortega, to name just two.

3. There's tons of wine. Really good wine. Beer and cocktails, too. 

4. To the sounds of a live brass band and folk music, fill your plate with traditional BBQ and inventive dishes and sides, all perfected by super stars. Korean-style beef short ribs anyone?

5. The HOUBBQ Collective will also be on hand cooking: Justin Yu, Ryan Pera, Seth Siegel-Gardner, Terrence Gallivan and cooks from Underbelly and One Fifth.

6. Two Knob Creek tasting tents, one sampling whiskies and one serving Old Fashioneds.

7. Inside Underbelly, you can participate in a silent auction. One lucky guest will win a dusty bottle bourbon tasting at Chris Shepherd’s very own home.
